Spy the Difference Support
We're here to help. Most answers are below — if yours isn't, email us and a real person will reply.
Getting started
What age is Spy the Difference for?
It's made for children aged 4 to 10, from first-time players to sharp-eyed puzzle masters. Three difficulty tiers keep the same app working as your child grows.
What's in the game?
Three ways to play. Journey is hand-crafted worlds worked through one level at a time — the sunny Farm world is free. Picture Hunt is whole painted scenes, free, where the differences hide inside the picture itself. Free Play builds a fresh level whenever your child wants one.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. Every level plays offline. A connection is only needed to make a purchase or restore one.
Does my child need an account?
No. There are no accounts, no sign-in, and no profiles to create.
Is the app available in my language?
The text inside the app is currently in English only. Our store listing is translated into several languages, but the game itself is not yet — we didn't want that to be a surprise after installing.
Playing the game
The game is too hard, or too easy.
Each level plays at three difficulty tiers, changed in Settings → Difficulty:
- Sprouts — fewest differences, larger and bolder, for the youngest players
- Explorers — more to find
- Masters — the trickiest hunts, for older children
Progress is kept separately for each tier, so changing it loses nothing.
We're stuck on one stubborn difference.
Use a hint. It gives a nudge in the right direction without giving the answer away.
How do I turn the timer off?
It's off unless someone turns it on. Settings → Challenge controls it.
How do I turn off the music or sound effects?
Settings → Sound has separate switches for music and sound effects.
Worlds and purchases
How do I unlock the Ocean and Space worlds?
Tap Grown-ups on the home screen. There's a short maths question there — it keeps a child from buying something on their own. Past it you'll find the shop, where Ocean and Space are one-time purchases, with a bundle that covers every paid world. The Farm world and the whole of Picture Hunt are free and always will be.
Can my child buy something by accident?
No. Every purchase sits behind the grown-ups gate, and the actual payment is handled by Google Play or the App Store, not by us — their payment sheet, their confirmation step.
I paid for a world but it's locked.
This usually means the app is on a new device, or was reinstalled. Go to Grown-ups → Shop and tap Restore purchases. Your unlocks come back without paying again, as long as you use the same store account that bought them. If a purchase still doesn't appear, email us — include the store account's email address and roughly when you bought it.
I bought on a child account and it's waiting for approval.
That's Google Family Link or Apple's Ask to Buy asking a grown-up to say yes. The app shows a friendly waiting message rather than an error, and the world unlocks by itself the moment the approval arrives — even if that's days later, or after the app has been closed and reopened.
The shop says products are unavailable.
That message means the store returned nothing, usually a temporary connection or store-account problem. Check you're online and signed in to the App Store or Google Play, then try again shortly. Worlds you already own keep working regardless. If it persists, email us.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by the stores, so refunds go through them rather than us:
- Google Play — https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2479637
- Apple — https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204084
If a purchase went wrong, email us as well and we'll help where we can.
Progress and data
What data do you collect?
None. Progress and settings are saved on the device and never sent anywhere — we have no server for the app to talk to. There are no ads and no analytics. The full details are in our privacy policy.
How do I delete my child's data?
Uninstalling the app removes it. There's no copy anywhere else, because nothing ever left the device.
