Getting started

What age is Reading Adventure Coach for?
It's made for children aged 5 to 8 who are learning to read aloud — from sounding out first sentences to reading a whole page without help.

How does it work?
Your child opens a story and reads it out loud. The app listens, follows along, and lights up the words as they get them. At the end of a story there are stars, and the next one is waiting.

Does my child need an account?
No. There are no accounts, no sign-in, and nothing to register. You create a reader name inside the app — that name stays on the device.

Does it work without internet?
Yes. Stories play offline, and the listening happens on the device. A connection is only needed to make a purchase or restore one.

Can more than one child use it?
Yes. Create a reader for each child in the Grown-ups' corner. Stories finished, stars earned and minutes read are kept separately for each one.

The microphone and listening

Why does the app want the microphone?
So it can hear your child read aloud and follow along on the page. It's used only while a story is open on screen — the app has no background service and stops listening the moment you leave the reading screen, switch apps, or take a call.

Is my child's voice recorded or uploaded?
No. Nothing is recorded, saved, or sent anywhere by us. The speech is turned into text on your own device, that text is used to highlight the words on the current page, and it's discarded when the page turns. The full details are in our privacy policy.

I said no to the microphone. Can we still use the app?
Yes, and nothing is locked. Every story can be played in Tap the words mode instead. If you change your mind, the app can send you to your device's settings from the Grown-ups' corner to turn the permission on.

The app isn't hearing my child properly.
A few things help: read somewhere reasonably quiet, keep the device within arm's reach rather than across the room, and don't cover the microphone with a case or a hand. Young voices, accents and half-remembered words are all hard for speech recognition — the app is deliberately forgiving, but if a page is fighting you, switch to Tap the words and carry on.

What is the "Allow online recognition" setting?
It's in the Grown-ups' corner and it's off by default. Left off, your child's voice never leaves the device. Turned on, your device's own speech recogniser may send audio to Apple or Google to be transcribed, which is more accurate in some languages — handled under their privacy policies, never seen by us. You can turn it off again at any time.

The app switched itself to Tap the words.
That happens when your device has no on-device speech recognition available for the chosen language. The app switches modes rather than sending the audio somewhere else. On some devices the language can be added in your device's own settings, after which listening works again.

Stories, progress and limits

How do I set a daily reading-time limit?
In the Grown-ups' corner. There's no limit unless you set one, and when the time is up the app says so kindly rather than pushing for more.

How do I change the language?
In the Grown-ups' corner. Which languages the app can listen in depends in part on the speech recognition your device has available.

How do I remove a reader, or start over?
Grown-ups' corner → Remove reader deletes that reader and their progress from the device. It can't be undone, and there's no copy anywhere else.

Can my child end up somewhere they shouldn't?
No. There's no chat, no social features, and no links out to the web from anywhere a child can reach. The only link out of the app — to your device's system settings — sits behind the parental gate.

The unlock and purchases

What does the purchase add?
One optional one-time unlock that adds the remaining two lands and their twenty stories. It's not a subscription, there's nothing to cancel, and it's never charged again.

Where do I buy it?
In the Grown-ups' corner, behind the parental gate — a short question a young child can't answer. Nothing in the part of the app your child uses asks them to buy anything, or to ask you to.

Can my child buy it by accident?
No. It's behind the parental gate, and the payment itself is handled by the App Store or Google Play — their payment sheet, their confirmation step.

I paid but the lands are locked.
This usually means a new device or a reinstall. Go to the Grown-ups' corner and tap Restore purchases, signed in with the same store account that bought it. If it still doesn't appear, email us — include the store account's email address and roughly when you bought it.

I bought on a child account and it's waiting for approval.
That's Google Family Link or Apple's Ask to Buy asking a grown-up to say yes. The unlock arrives by itself once the approval comes through, even if that's days later or after the app has been closed and reopened.

The shop says the product is unavailable.
That means the store returned nothing, usually a temporary connection or store-account problem. Check you're online and signed in to the App Store or Google Play, then try again shortly. Everything you already own keeps working. If it persists, email us.

How do I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by the stores, so refunds go through them rather than us:

If a purchase went wrong, email us as well and we'll help where we can.

Progress and data

What data do you collect?
None. Reader names, progress and settings are saved on the device and never sent anywhere — we have no server for the app to talk to. There are no ads and no analytics. The full details are in our privacy policy.

How do I delete my child's data?
Use Remove reader in the Grown-ups' corner, or uninstall the app to remove all of it at once. There's no copy anywhere else, because nothing ever left the device.
