Pip's Story Studio Support

We're here to help. Most answers are below — if yours isn't, email us and a real person will reply.

Getting started

What age is Pip's Story Studio for?
It's designed for children aged 4–7. Younger children enjoy picking heroes and watching their stories; older ones build longer stories of up to eight scenes and read along with the captions.

Does my child need to read?
No. Captions and screen titles are read aloud by your device's own voice, and every choice is a picture. During setup your child can even say their name instead of typing it.

Does it work offline?
Yes, completely. The app you download from the stores never connects to the internet — everything, including the Story Helper and the bookshelf, is built in. Only buying or restoring Story Studio Plus goes through the App Store or Google Play.

How does my child make a story?
Pick a hero, a place and a feeling, then build the scene on the stage: drag heroes into place, make them bigger or smaller, and choose what they do (jump, dance, walk, wave or sleep) and what they say. Add up to eight scenes, then press play to watch the story as an animated film. Stories save themselves to the shelf.

What is the Story Helper?
Twinkle, the sparkle helper, offers three scene ideas at a time when your child is stuck. Every idea is built only from the app's own heroes, places and feelings, written and reviewed by us and shipped inside the app. You can switch it off, or choose which idea themes it may use, in the Grown-ups area.

The Grown-ups area

How do I get into the Grown-ups area?
Tap the small Grown-ups button on the Home screen, then answer the multiplication question shown (for example, "What is 6 × 7?") on the app's own keypad and tap Open. After three wrong answers the keypad pauses for 30 seconds. Once open, the area stays open for 10 minutes, then the question comes back.

What can I do there?
Save a story as a video with narration, print it as a PDF storybook, choose the app's language, switch sound effects on or off, manage the Story Helper, buy or restore Story Studio Plus, and delete your child's data.

How do I save a story as a video or print a storybook?
In the Grown-ups area, pick the story and tap Save as video or Print a storybook. The video is made on your device, with narration, and can be saved to Photos or sent through your device's share sheet. The PDF opens the share sheet, where you can print it or send it. Video and PDF exports come with Story Studio Plus.

How do I change the language?
The app ships in 30 languages. Choose a different one under the language setting in the Grown-ups area.

The captions aren't being read aloud.
Read-aloud uses your device's own text-to-speech voice, so check that your device isn't muted or on silent, and that it has a voice installed for the language the app is using. On Android that's under Settings → Accessibility → Text-to-speech; on iOS, Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices.

The microphone button doesn't appear during setup.
Saying a name uses your device's on-device speech recognition. If your device has none for the language the app is using, the button is hidden and the name can simply be typed.

Story Studio Plus

What's free, and what does Plus add?
Making, saving and watching stories is free for everyone, along with three fairy tales and two studio books. Story Studio Plus unlocks the rest of the bookshelf — nineteen fairy tales and nine books about Pip and friends in total — plus video and PDF exports.

Is it a subscription?
No. Story Studio Plus is a single purchase that never renews. There are no subscriptions and nothing else to buy.

Can my child buy anything, or see prices?
No. Plus is sold only in the Grown-ups area, behind the parental gate. Locked books show a lock on the child's bookshelf; tapping one opens the parental gate, never a price or a store sheet.

I bought Plus on another device, or reinstalled the app.
Open the Grown-ups area and tap Restore purchase on the Story Studio Plus card. You'll need to be signed in to the same Apple Account or Google account that made the purchase, and to be online.

How do I get a refund?
Payments and refunds are handled by the App Store or Google Play under their own rules — request one from your store account.

Stories and data

Can other people see my child's stories?
No. Nothing a child makes is ever published or shown to other users. A story only leaves the device when a grown-up exports it and chooses where to send it.

How do I delete everything?
In the Grown-ups area, tap Delete [your child's name]'s data. It removes every story, export, setting and your child's profile in one step and returns the app to first-time setup. Your Story Studio Plus purchase is kept. Deleting the app also removes everything — there is no account and no cloud copy.

What data do you collect about my child?
None at all. No accounts, no ads, no analytics, no trackers, and no internet connection. The full details are in our privacy policy.
